The Lagos State Badminton Association (LSBA) has announced that the South West Badminton Championship will hold from July 27 to 29 at the Teslim Balogun Stadium, Lagos.
According to LSBA, Team Lagos, which will compete for honours in the regional competition against Ogun, Oyo, Ondo, Osun and Ekiti states, will commence preparations for the championship next week.
LSBA Chairman, John Duru, said camping the athletes would ensure the state selects the best players for the tournament, while assuring that Lagos State will not disappoint at the championship going by the pedigree of its players.
He added that the South West Championship would also be used to select players that will represent Nigeria at the Lagos Badminton Classics billed for August.
The LSBA boss said, “the South West Championship is for senior players,” adding that apart from the championships, the association has other activities for officials to update their knowledge on the sport.
Duru, who called on corporate bodies to support LSBA in its quest to lift badminton, said the board would continue to explore all avenues to develop the sport.
He also disclosed that LSBA would reintroduce the badminton summer camp this year.
